Crown Raising /
Crown Reduction

Crown Raising: Sometimes it's necessary to remove lower branches to clear room for parking, traffic, buildings or walkways. Shortening the branches is the best way to shape the tree instead of removal because removing large limbs can impact the overall health of the tree. Crown raising does the least damage to a tree. Regular pruning over time will keep the integrity of the tree intact. Taking away too many lower branches pushes growth to the top of the tree where wind is stronger so too much raising can lead to cracking and trunk decay.

Crown Reduction: Crown Reduction is a technique where by pruning the ends of branches to make them shorter improves the appearance and shape of the tree. As you can see by the above diagram, the tips of the branches are cut back around the entire crown of the tree.
